Chester County Bass Masters held their first of five opens for the season on May 9th out of Anchor Marine in Northeast Maryland.

The title sponsor for the tournament was Pro Action Restoration from Holmes, Pa.

42 Teams showed up on a calm May Saturday to search for some of the Upper Bays largemouth that have been mostly elusive following the cold winter and spring.

Air temps at launch were around 60 with a light mist in the air after some pre dawn fog. The day stayed mostly overcast with some sun breaking thru late in the TX day sending temps into the low 80's. Winds were negligible for the most part, 5 - 10.

Water temps were in the 64 - 71 degree range depending where you fished, with some off colored water in areas of the Northeast.

Launch was on a falling tide with a low around 8:45 sending teams scrambling to find decent water with most heading down to the Flats looking for the big females who were moving up to spawn with the rising water temps.

The fish were concentrated in a few select areas but 18 limits were brought to the scales for the 2:30 weigh in, including 3 bags over 20 pounds and 11 bags over 15 pounds.

A few big girls were found with four bass over 5 pounds weighed in and thirteen over 4 pounds.

9 cash places were paid, along with 5 sponsor prizes from Susquehanna Tackle, Browning Eyewear, Cabela's of Christiana Mall, Sunoco, and GRT jigs.

Thanks to everyone who came out to fish, we and our sponsors appreciate the support.

The next Chester County open will be on Saturday, July 18th out of Anchor Marine.

First place payout went to the team of Mike Sentore and Henry McKee, no strangers to the top spot. They brought in a hefty limit just shy of 24 pounds, 23.99 Lbs.
