Title: i should stay away from Bass Pro
Post by: bfitch on March 17, 2008, 12:01:33 PM
ok maybe not, but i should at least keep my wallet at home. went up yesterday to buy some odds and ends for fishing season (i like the BPS lures) and walked out with a bag O' goodies and a Garmin 430s GPS/Sonar. yesterday was the last day for their big fishing sale and 12 month no intrest/payment deal. it was too good of a deal to pass up. plus it was 50$ off.

so now i have a new toy to play with this year! :14:

Sorry to hear it.

And Garmin?  You didn't check out the good discounts on Lowrance from the Federation?  Doc scrapped all his Garmin stuff, meeeeee toooooooo!  Went Lowrance.  But to each his own.  Good luck with Garmin.

i was looking at the lowrance pieces up there, but the lowrance was 650 for just the GPS and the Garmin was 450 for the GPS/Sonar. My dad has Garmin stuff on his boat and he has the blue charts for the Chesapeake. i was thinking about going through the federation and getting a lowrance, but i didnt have money now and knew that i most likely wont have the money untill august/september, and i didnt want to buy it and use it once before putting it away for the winter.

my next boat will have the big lowrance unit on it though. that thing is sweet.

bfitch,

I need to stay away from Bass Pro and Cabelas.  Over the weekend, I drove to the Lehigh Valley to help my brother move furniture so he can get his hardwood floors re-done.  On the way home,  I thought . . . why not make a quick pit stop at Cabelas.   Although I didn't have much money, I was able to rationalize this thought because after all, I did need to eat lunch.

So I stopped at Cabelas . . . did not get lunch but I managed to spend 250.00 on some pretty lures and new fishing hats.  The bait monkey got me again . . .  :52:

I find it easy to stay away from those stores.  They deliver right to my door.

Eli and Bassboogie, I hear ya' about the at-home-delivery concept.  The problem is that the delivery always happens when I am at work, i.e., the wife gets "the product".  So, when I come home, I must respond to the often predictable conversation that goes something like this . . .

Wife:  So, you got a delivery today . . . (for guys, this isn't a question, for girls, it is)
Me:  Oh, yeah, I had to pick up some last minute stuff for ______ (fill in the blank)
Wife:  I thought you already got everything you needed for the season
Me:  Well, yeah, but I was thinkin' of stringing up a baitcaster with some braided line and couldn't find any 50 lb test so I . . .
Wife:  You needed more fishing string . . . you have a whole box of string
Me:  Leave me alone . . . I don't criticize you for buying more diapers when we already have a whole box of diapers
Wife:  I thought you were saving money for a boat
Me:  I am . . .
Wife:  You didn't spend the Christmas money that I gave you for a television that you put into the "boat account" to buy this stuff did you?
Me:  I did but it wasn't much, plus I had my Club Card points that I thought should be used before they expire
Wife:  Well, I don't want to hear you cry when you have money for a boat
Me:  Do I look like I am crying . . .

 you didn't really lead her to believe this, did you?!

classic fishing quote...
"my biggest fear is that when i die, my wife will sell all of my fishing equiptment for what i told her i paid for it."

Fishinjim, I don't even want to think about that scenario . . .

continuing your conversation:
Wife: No, you don't look like your crying, yet.
W2BF: What is that supposed to mean, yet?
Wife: You can forget about sex for this month.
W2BF: Sex, what's that, it's been so long I've forgotten.
Wife: Let's make that six months.
W2BF:  :35:

Good golly, almighty, W2BF......  Give us a sample of the conversation that goes on when the package wrapped in plain brown wrapper (reference to another thread) arrives?  It's gotta be better than:  Get the popcorn ready, dear...............

Wishin:  There is a very simple concept that I use for all deliveries so that my wife does not ever say anything no matter how much stuff I buy.

I have it delivered to my work address.

"I have it delivered to my work address."

Pillager, but at some point, you must bring home the newly purchased gear.  Or, do you have a giant tackle closet in your office?  Now, that would be pretty cool.

It's in the garage and is called a boat!

Pillager, you are a FIRST CLASS WUSS. . . .  delivered to your work address?  Chicken Chit.  All my stuff come to the house - my wife carries in the box and lays it at my feet.  Opens the box and hands me the contents for my inspection.  Gets me a cold beer to quench my thirst.  Complements me on my excellenct choices in my recent purchases.  And NEVER inquires as to what I may have spent.  The wonderful woman even suggested that I extend my April fishing a few days and not waste the time to come home between the Potomac events.  Wait - maybe I should be a little suspicious of that one.....................
