Man, yesterday I found the biggest ripoff ever. I had to ship my boat windshields down to Arkansas, to have new ones made. So, there is a new UPS Store in the Commons Shopping Ctr. at routes 10 & 30 and I went up to see about getting the shields packaged and shipped. NOTE: the "UPS Store" is a seperate franchise from U.P.S. and my rant is directed only at the "UPS Store".
Well, the clerk was most helpful, told me shipping would be $125.00 to get it where I wanted it to go in 4 days. Packaging - well that's another $40.00 for a box and some peanuts. Total would be $165.00. "WTH - are you freaking nuts? That can't possibly be correct." was my astonished response. Well the clerk said it was. So out the door I went, another potential customer also followed me out.
Went home and scrounged up a box, some peanuts and bubble wrap in the basement. Took the box to my good old U. S. Post Office and shipped it PRIORITY MAIL - delivery in TWO days, for how much? I should make this a contest. . . . No, nevermind the contest. How much did the Post Office charge me - $23.75. WTF was the additional $100.00 the "UPS Store" wanted, for? This, in my mind, is the biggest, worse rip off of a consumer I have ever encountered.
My fervent hope is that no one I know ever sets foot in a "UPS Store" and the competition forces this "business" to go belly up. I feel bad for those poor unknowing individuals that fall victim to this "business".
UPS stores are terrible...private owned , can charge whatever they want on top of the normal UPS fees.
Postal Service is generally the cheapest way to go.
Those stores are franchises which is the foulest word in the English language! But, I sure would have liked to see your facial expression when they hit you with that cost. :47:
UPS stores were formerly "Mailboxes Etc." UPS bought the franchise and relabeled.
