Title: Ryan W2BF
Post by: bassboogieman on November 14, 2008, 10:02:18 PM
I got a line on parts to convert a Chronarch MG to a 5:1 gear ratio, if you still want a light weight, low ratio reel for crankbaits.  It can be done fairly easily, don't know how much - but it would give you "YOUR PERFECT REEL".

I am not so sure about taking apart one of my endangered and soon-to-be extinct Chronarchs.  I am going to have to think about this one.

I think it only involves changing the big gear and the drive gear to different sizes.  But take your time, if you want the contact I can send it to you and you can contact directly for all the particulars.  I am only trying to help out with an option to give you the lightest crankbait reel you will probably find.

I did this with a bunch of my old Quantums, it's not very hard to do.  You just have to be slow and methodical taking it apart so you can reverse everything putting it back together.

The problem with their crankbait rods is, they are still a fast action, not a medium action.

Not the Graphite Plus Crankbait Special COMPOSITE - which is why he wants that specific rod.  It's a moderate action.  All the others - you are correct, the graphite blanks are all fast actions.  The composite blanks are only found in the now discontinued Graphite Plus and the Magnesium "crankbait" rods.  The BAD thing about them is, and maybe this is what you were thinking of, they are only available in MEDIUM, which I think is too light to throw the deeper cranks.

Since you asked . . . I subscribe to the Rule of 4 S's.  When you buy gifts for the wifey, you should purchase the following:

1.  Something SOFT
2.  Something that SMELLS good
3.  Something SPARKLEY and
4.  Something SEXY.

If you are "on the fence" about a particular gift, you should ask yourself if the contemplated item has any utility.  If the answer is no . . . then you should buy it.  The less useful a gift is, the more the wifey or girlfriend will like it.

Sounds to me like you need to buy her a couple dozen of Doc Irv's finest Hollywood Irco specials.   Black with large silver fleck.  Spray some of that Jack's Juice crawdad scent in the bag and you've got it made!
