Pete Rose :evil: Joke.
OK, now that the can of worms is open, I think Pete Rose SHOULD be in the hall of fame. It's a joke that he isn't. Especially with all the "records" held by juicers. He bet ON HIS OWN TEAM TO WIN. Nothing about that bet goes against anything sportsmanlike. It's not like he would do something to throw the game.

thats why i threw that out there. to me the hall the hall of fame is joke for that reason. that had nothing to do with anything with how good he was.
Almost all of them are jerks (or worse). The Hall should only about what you did on the field. Hmmmm, more hits than anyone ever. He should be in....

• Jay Bell (Not even close)
• Bert Blyleven (287 wins 3.31 ERA in 24 seasons, close, mabee, nah...)
• David Cone (mediocre HoF stats. Perfect Game, Yankee, damn, nah...)
• Andre Dawson (Almost but just short)
• Ron Gant (.256 batting average, not even close)
• Mark Grace (Never 20HR or 100 rbi. 303 average, not...)
• Rickey Henderson (Slam Dunk on steals, 3000 hits, would have 300+ave but hung around too long. He should be in.)
• Tommy John (Close but nah... 33 complete games over 2 seasons wow)
• Don Mattingly (was on track for slam dunk when back gave out. I'd say yes but I am a yankee fan)
• Mark McGwire (583 hr, 70 & 65 hrs in btb seasons. Should already be in)
• Jack Morris (Good solid career but nothing more)
• Dale Murphy (A few exceptional years, but not a full career, nah)
• Jesse Orosco (Can't give just on longevity and a 3.16 ERA)
• Dave Parker (Stat aren't showing up, but I am sure he belongs in)
• Dan Plesac (Not even going to look him up, no)
• Tim Raines (Some very good years and a good career, not great career)
• Jim Rice (298 avg, 1400 strike outs but good obs. Hate to say Yes to a Red Sox, yes)
• Lee Smith (3.03 era, saves, close, yes, no, yes, nah)
• Alan Trammell (Good career, great defensive stats, close but no)
• Greg Vaughn (95 hrs in btb years, 50hr+119 rbi year, 240 avg. no)
• Mo Vaughn (30+hrs 6 years in row, but not enough career)
• Matt Williams (A few good years mixed with some ok, not enough)
part of me hopes mcgwire goes in, and the rest of me hopes he doesnt. the fan in me wants him to make it, the worker in me doesnt. I have to set up the sound system for the induction ceremonies every year. its a pretty cool gig, but its a pain in the ass when there is a ton of people there, a la ripkens year.
i would love to see Rose go in, just cause he was a phillie, and i seen him up there a while back eating dinner at the table next to me.
Henderson - no brainer, was a jerk but the best leadoff man in baseball for a long period.
Blyleven - Blyleven currently ranks 5th all-time in Strikeouts with 3701 ,
9th all time in shutouts with 60 and 27th all-time in Wins with 287 with a career 3.31 era.
He was 5 - 1 in post season with a 2.47 era and was in the starting rotation for 2 World Series winners.
When He retired after the 1992 season, He was 3rd on the all time K list.
He should have been in years ago.
Dawson - 1977 NL rookie of the Year, 1987 NL MVP ( on a last place team )
8 Gold Gloves, 4 Silver Slugger awards, almost 2800 hits and 1600 rbi's, over 300 stolen bases and 438 HR's and 1378 runs.......a rare combination of power/speed, and arguably the best Right Fielder ( and CF ) of his generation, had the best throwing arm of any outfielder in the 80's. Should be in.
Rice - 1978 AL MVP, almost 2500 hits, almost 1500 rbi, only 58 SB. No Gold Gloves, 2 Silver Sluggr awards, 1249 Runs. I put him in as He was one of the most feared hitters fo ra ten year stretch in the AL.
Mattingly - Great Player, but too short a career, can't play the what if game with injuries, Tony Conigliaro ( I know you remember him Eli LOL ) led the AL in Home Runs at 20 years old in 1965, got beaned a year later and out of baseball for a few years, Might have been one of the top HR guys for a long time.
Dale Murphy falls into the same category, 2 MVP's, great but shortened career.
Shame Mattingly could not hang on for 3 more years.
But, flip side is if Mattingly had played anywhere else but NY, He would have been just another good first baseman, like Fred McGriff, Keth Hernandez.......
None of the steroid boys get in, McGwire, Sosa, Bonds....not for a while yet.
Rose should have elected in his first year ......what He did as a manager had nothing to do with his on field performance.
Dave Parker's stats are a mirror image of Rice's, with Parker having won a few Gold GLoves...that drug charge might keep him out a few more years....
Raines is real close...2600 hits and over 800 stolen bases......not many players with those stats. Maybe next year.
Lee Smith, has some numbers, just wasn't a dominant player as a a closer, not like Goose Gossage was.
The rest, they'll all need a ticket to get in Cooperstown.
