Lidge is toast, and again tonight, Madson showed why he is a really good 8th inning setup guy, but NOT a closer.
I'm willing to give Madsen a little more leeway than Lidge. He actually pitched pretty good except for one pitch, and it cost him. And that was over 2 innings. How many times do you see a pitcher get away with that pitch. Lidge on the other hand seems to throw multiple bad pitches per outing, sometimes getting away with them.

Too late to try Madson again...He failed miserably earlier in the season at closing when Lidge went on the DL, 9.62 era when closing. He does not seem to have the mental make up for that position................There are a couple of quality closers on the waiver wire, Qualls from Arizona and Bell from San Diego, but doubt if either of them will get to the Phils without being claimed by another team, whether they need a closer , or to just block the Phils from getting either one.
Myers is an outside possibility, He threw his second rehab last night at Reading, struck out 5 of 6 hitters in 2 innings work, hitting 93 and threw all his pitches for strikes. He would have to be brought up before Tuesday though.
Why does he have to come up before Tuesday? He played this year already in 10 games. He was on the DL.
ah, never mind. he's not on the 40 man roster.
They have Condrey, Romero, and Meyers coming back. Who will they dump from the active roster?
Walker will be first gone, but then do they just keep guys on the DL? I think they might put Lidge on the 15 day DL just to see if rest helps more. That's 2 spots.
And they only have 5 position guys on the bench as it is. 1 catcher, 2 infielders, 2 outfielders. No wiggle room there.

Any player not brought up by midnight on the 31st is not eligible for the playoffs. Rosters expand on the 1st so they will bring up a few of the Minor league guys once their minor league playoffs are done, Brown and Taylor might be up for the bench.
They moved Myers to the 60 day DL, so He can be brought up after Sept 1st and still be on the playoff roster. If He continues to throw like He did last night, He would be the first option to close.
Romero is about done for the season, He had another setback this week........I doubt he is back this year at all.
I didn't hear about Romero's recent setback... that sucks... they could have used him if he was throwing like last year, and put Lidge on the DL for the remainder of the season.
and although they denied it, I think Lidge's knee got hurt when Howard piled on him at the end of the WS...
