no i didnt get a ticket
Well the show was pretty good, and the Bass Academy session was great. More fishing stuff than I expected. Nothing crazy and awesome, but still alot of stuff to look at. Quantum, Sebile, Ardent and Shimano had great booths, as did SFT, Northern Bass Supply and a few others.
Took a bunch of notes and learned a few key tricks and tips that I can definitely use. Got Brauer and KVD's signature on my hat, got a signed Quantum/KVD poster for Mrs. McNicholas and got Ryan and I each a Tour KVD Composite Rod signed by KVD.
I was thinking about getting one of the Tour KVD rods anyways and decided to just go for it when he was signing them at SFT's booth.
Went to the show yesterday. Figured with the snow the crowd would be light. Good show, all you mentioned and a good showing of boats. Had 3 Basscats, but no Eyre...
Dan,
Tell me more about your meeting with KVD. Was he an approachable guy?
I wish I could have been there but I was picking up my wife's new car (during my bad string of luck, my wife got in a nasty head on car accident after some crazy kid lost control of his car and left it in the middle of the turnpike without any lights at night).
I can't wait to see the new rod. Let me know what I owe you. Much thanks.
KVD talks as fast as he usually fishes. once he gets on a topic, he just goes. He's very fun and yes, I would say approachable. He gladly talked with guys about whatever, signed stuff for long lines of people and was always doing it with a genuine smile. And holy smokes is the guy talented with his s/b casting. He was launching roll casts in rapid fire mode down a narrow aisle with only a few feet of room next to him lest he hit the wall or people while talking and demonstrating things.
Brauer was much the same, even making fun of himself a little for his dismal classic performance. Said he lost two really quality bites on day two right at the boat. Both times the fish rolled over after being hooked cuz they were so lethargic and when he went to bring them into the boat, his jig went flying by his head. He and hackney were both fishing the same area where they each caught good fish in practice, but it shut down for them hard on tournament days.
Baksay was really awesome on the jerkbait/topwater topic and Gene Ellison was really cool with his dropshot lecture....talking abotu some of the finer points and techniques.
The rod was 160 after tax. Its a 7' MH.
I was slightly disappointed that they sold out the 7' Mediums. However, the 7' MH was the rod that he used to win the Classic.
I have been looking for a good lipless rod. Perhaps this is the ticket.
I was supposed to host that show but, they didnt pay enough. Should of put the money towards a new rod and reel outfit. See how much im worth. thats good info right there.

Now that thar is a legend in his own mind.
You could be like KVD all, you just need money, Time and all the free tackle and all the free information you could get just like he does. I love the guy and think hes great but, cmon he has nothing to worry about but to win tournaments. dont ever underestimate yourself, he is a human just like us. You could be the same or almost as good if that was all you had to worry about. I dont know maybe im just over confident, not saying i would be better than KVD, but 100 times better than i am. so what is the key factors we learned here. Money, time and information. damn im good.............hehehehehehehehehehehe! What bruce? imknow your gonna have something to say....
Lipper, the point is, he got that way by being TONS better than all of us put together. He earned all that stuff. In the beginning, he didn't have it either.

There are a few guys (20-30) that have the same money, time, info, opportunities and KVD kicks their buts regularly. He does have something special....
You dont think that there is any luck involved at all? I mean cmon, hes throwing crank baits. I know that sounds ignorant, but there has to be some luck. The other guys cant be that bad. Maybe its not about the money he spends on his info. Just saying his team is beyond the rest, he definatley has the best contacts in the sport. He has to, the man is in the top ten every tourney. Its just my opinion thats all. I mean hes almost as good as me
"Luck is a product of design" Branch Rickey
He has no more luck than the others and his information is not better than others. He is from Michigan, half the guides on the Southern Lakes are still fighting the civil war. He is smarter and a more accurate caster than anyone else. You stink just like the rest of us...
I do stink, Come to think of it, I havent won a tournament in 32 say 33 years. Thats horrible.
"I mean cmon, hes throwing crank baits."
What is that supposed to mean? Are you trying to offend me.
Just saying the other elite fisherman may have a clue how to throw crank baits. No offense. They just dont catch the quality of fish KVD does.

Ryan, we all throw crankbaits. Mentioning crankbaits is not intended to offend you. When we intend to offend you we are generally more direct.
Oh, except when JJ talks about you behind your back, of course.
Hey Mr. Crankbait, here's a tip for ya  K_p_e_s L_ve T_r_et.

Oh yea by the way did I tell you about what .... said???
I make fun on this bored, otherwise we would be talking about the economy, politics, and whatever else stresses a person out. Half the stuff I say is to get it going on here. I am not that much of barker. Reality is serious enough. So why not have fun here. BTW Crankbaits are for beginners, no offense ryan

JJ has bragging rights since he beat me in total points. Not to mention, I got shut out when I was fishing with him.

Good thing I'm a heck of a frontender... I think you would have beaten me in points if you had caught just one fish.
Strategy, baby.

Those are the most realistic crank baits out there...
don't know if they catch fish but they look great in the tackle box.

No chance of me catching a fish while we were in drop shot heaven. Man, you really like that matted grass. :cheesy:
You need to learn how to fish that Ryan. Some days it is unbelievable.

lol.
In retrospect, I think we should have headed up under that bridge and into that creek.... Lots of docks and some junk in there.... snakeheads too. lol.
If it hadn't been so windy, or if we would have seen at least one of the other people fishing those mats catch a fish, i'da probably wanted to stay on that main river grass and flip all day.
