I'm a regular on the Tues. nite tourneys and looking for some info. Looking to fish Easter weekend at Northeast, Md. Never been there before. Looking for info:
launch site
is it tough to navigate?
local tackle shop for license
etc.

Fishing the Northeast could be tough around Easter still......if taking I -95 and getting off at the Northeast/(Rising Sun) exit there is a Wal-Mart on the right side just before you cross over route 40 to go into Northeast. You can get a Bay tidal license there, also Herbs Tackle Shop in the town of Northeast on the right side heading thru town.
Anchor Marine is the launch, off the Northeast exit, follow route 272 couple miles and cross over route 40, into town of Northeast road splits, thru town ( 1/2 mile)the road will come back together, look for Anchor Marine sign at Iroquois Drive right after the road rejoins, turn right and follow to the right to the ramp.
The Northeast river channels are well marked...but you should really look at a chart before heading out as their are a few shallow areas not far from the ramp off the channels. If you plan to head down to the flats area you will definitely need a chart or GPS heading as the channel running from the Northeast to the mouth of the Susquehanna is narrow.

as for launching, anchor marine will be your best bet. i can't remember if it costs $5 or $10 to launch. i'm also not sure of their hours this earyl in the season.

far as navigating, you will want to take a map/chart and pay attention to the tides. there are shallow areas.
far as tackle shop for license, i don't know. most guys in our club are getting the potomac fisheries commission license which covers all of the bay and the potomac...

but its mail in ($7.50 individual - $30 boat) and i don't know if that will get to you in time.
you can also get a maryland tidal sportfishing license. it cost a little more, but you may be able to order it online. someone else here may know if you can by one in or around elkton.

You can get your license on line here, http://www.dnr.state.md.us/service/fishinfo.asp (http://www.dnr.state.md.us/service/fishinfo.asp) also there is an Anglers Choice Tournament on Good Friday so it might be a little crowded in the morning but there is plenty of parking out back. On safely navigating the upper bay ask Doc to draw you a map, I heard he knows where all the hazards are. Sorry Doc, I don't know if you remember who I am or not but I couldn't resist.
I only know where the hazards are after I bounce off them.... and with the tides they might have moved... so I'm useless until I bounce around out there this season... :wink:
My advice to you is to plane very slow till you get the idea of the area. the other rivers are easier to navigate, but the north east i think is the toughest because of the flats. after one day you will be fine if you are a regular boater. be safe first and fish second. :wink:
