IGFA Announces Decision On Pending World Record Bass

Perhaps even more fascinating was Editor Hall's report on explaining to

the accountants at the Bass Anglers Sportsmen Society about how he

spent so much of his company's money on this recent visit to Japan.


A McDonald's Quarter Pounder meal in Tokyo cost him 883 yen or about $9

in American money. That was no big revelation, but Hall also paid for

Kurita's expenses when they fished together on Lake Biwa.




One gasoline bill was for $200 and that was just for Kurita's truck.

Add another $130 in gas expenses for their boat. It seems gasoline

costs between $4.20 to nearly $7 a gallon in that country.



Kurita also had to pay $130 in tolls to travel from his home to Lake

Biwa. The Japanese government discourages highway traveling during the

week by making it so expensive. That same trip would have been just

about $12 on a weekend.




Add in another $30 to launch the boat. In the land of the Rising Sun,

bassboats are generally stored just like we do some of our boats in big

marinas with limited space.



You need to hire the forklift guy to get it out of storage and into the

water for you. It would appear that all the land in Japan is so much a

premium, and a very limited, essential.




So, bottom line, it costs an average Japanese angler like Kurita just about $500 every time they go fishing.
