my Dad wants me to make a website for the company. we have a domain and a host, but he wants me to build something for the pages. we have a guy out in nashville thats friends with my dad, and knows this stuff, but he wants me to send a rough copy to him so he can proof it and polish it before it goes on the web.
what i need from you is guidance on where to find a good application to build a website. do ya know of anything for that?

well, here's some options on this page:

WYSIWYG stands for: what you see is what you get

I would learn HTML, at least the basics.  It will make your life alot easier.

If your dad's friend is looking for a rough sketch, ask him if he wants the rough sketch in HTML or if a "drawing" in PowerPoint or something would suffice.

Word of warning:  Free Web Page builders (HTML editors) aren't great, and can be cumbersome.  I havent played around with one recently though, so they may be better now than they were 2 or 3 years ago.

Good luck!

Download whatever free version of Visual Studio from Microsoft you can find.  I like it.  You can download lots of components, but you won't need the C#, visual basic etc. unless you're getting into advanced stuff.  Works pretty well for basic stuff, I never really got past the basics.  Dan knows his stuff though, so try out his stuff too.  You'll have to download .NET framework, and it might come with the Visual Studio or be an option.  I use 2005 version at home.  The 2008 version is now available but I don't know if there is a free version or not yet.

It pays to be an optimist.  Even if you are wrong, you are happy about it.
