Well the show was pretty good, and the Bass Academy session was great.  More fishing stuff than I expected.  Nothing crazy and awesome, but still alot of stuff to look at.  Quantum, Sebile, Ardent and Shimano had great booths, as did SFT, Northern Bass Supply and a few others.

Took a bunch of notes and learned a few key tricks and tips that I can definitely use.  Got Brauer and KVD's signature on my hat, got a signed Quantum/KVD poster for Mrs. McNicholas and got Ryan and I each a Tour KVD Composite Rod signed by KVD.

I was thinking about getting one of the Tour KVD rods anyways and decided to just go for it when he was signing them at SFT's booth.

Went to the show yesterday.  Figured with the snow the crowd would be light.  Good show, all you mentioned and a good showing of boats.  Had 3 Basscats, but no Eyre...

Dan,

Tell me more about your meeting with KVD.  Was he an approachable guy?

I wish I could have been there but I was picking up my wife's new car (during my bad string of luck, my wife got in a nasty head on car accident after some crazy kid lost control of his car and left it in the middle of the turnpike without any lights at night).

I can't wait to see the new rod.  Let me know what I owe you.  Much thanks.

KVD talks as fast as he usually fishes.  once he gets on a topic, he just goes.  He's very fun and yes, I would say approachable.  He gladly talked with guys about whatever, signed stuff for long lines of people and was always doing it with a genuine smile.  And holy smokes is the guy talented with his s/b casting.  He was launching roll casts in rapid fire mode down a narrow aisle with only a few feet of room next to him lest he hit the wall or people while talking and demonstrating things.

Brauer was much the same, even making fun of himself a little for his dismal classic performance.  Said he lost two really quality bites on day two right at the boat.  Both times the fish rolled over after being hooked cuz they were so lethargic and when he went to bring them into the boat, his jig went flying by his head.    He and hackney were both fishing the same area where they each caught good fish in practice, but it shut down for them hard on tournament days.

Baksay was really awesome on the jerkbait/topwater topic and Gene Ellison was really cool with his dropshot lecture....talking abotu some of the finer points and techniques.

The rod was 160 after tax.  Its a 7' MH.

I was slightly disappointed that they sold out the 7' Mediums.  However, the 7' MH was the rod that he used to win the Classic.
I have been looking for a good lipless rod.  Perhaps this is the ticket.

It pays to be an optimist.  Even if you are wrong, you are happy about it.

You could be like KVD all, you just need money, Time and all the free tackle and all the free information you could get just like he does. I love the guy and think hes great but, cmon he has nothing to worry about but to win tournaments. dont ever underestimate yourself, he is a human just like us. You could be the same or almost as good if that was all you had to worry about. I dont know maybe im just over confident, not saying i would be better than KVD, but 100 times better than i am. so what is the key factors we learned here. Money, time and information. damn im good.............hehehehehehehehehehehe! What bruce? imknow your gonna have something to say....
