MLB   2021   Hall of Fame Ballot

To be on the ballot, a player must have played in 10 big league seasons and have been retired for five years.

To get into the Hall of Fame, a player needs 75 percent of the vote, as cast by members of the Baseball Writers Association of America.

Here are the new names for 2021:

• Mark Buehrle

• A.J. Burnett

• Michael Cuddyer

• Dan Haren

• LaTroy Hawkins

• Tim Hudson

• Torii Hunter

• Aramis Ramírez

• Nick Swisher

• Shane Victorino

• Barry Zito

There are no sure things here — perhaps no even possible things. Of the list, only Buehrle, Hudson and Hunter had a career WAR over 50, and even that is marginal for a Hall of Famer at most positions.

Here are the carryovers from the 2020 ballot, their results and their year on the ballot. Players are eligible for election for 10 years. Many of the big names have one year left after this.
Bonds, Clemens, Sosa and Schilling are in their last year of eligibility to be voted in the HOF.
Schilling was the closest to election last year with 70 % of the 75 needed.

• Curt Schilling - 70.0% (9th year)

• Roger Clemens - 61.0% (9th year)

• Barry Bonds - 60.7% (9th year)

• Omar Vizquel - 52.6% (4th year)

• Scott Rolen - 35.3% (4th year)

• Billy Wagner - 31.7% (6th year)

• Gary Sheffield - 30.5% (7th year)

• Todd Helton - 29.2% (3rd year)

• Manny Ramírez - 28.2% (5th year)

• Jeff Kent - 27.5% (8th year)

• Andruw Jones - 19.4% (4th year)

• Sammy Sosa - 13.9% (9th year)

• Andy Pettitte - 11.3% (3rd year)

• Bobby Abreu - 5.5% (2nd year)

None of the new ones should make it.

Bonds, Clemens and even Shilling should be in...

The man with more hits than anyone else ever should be in the Hall of Fame...

For the first time since 1960, the membership of the National Baseball Hall of Fame will remain frozen.

No player on the Hall's 2021 Baseball Writers' Association of America ballot reached the 75 percent threshold needed for enshrinement in Cooperstown. The results of the voting were announced by Hall of Fame president Tim Mead on MLB Network on Tuesday night.

The leading vote-getter was controversial pitcher Curt Schilling, who was named on 71.1 percent of the ballots, 16 votes shy of the minimum needed for selection. Schilling was followed by all-time home run leader Barry Bonds (61.8 percent) and 354-game winner Roger Clemens (61.6) in the voting.

All three former All-Stars were in their ninth year of eligibility on the ballot, leaving them one more chance next winter. Players get 10 shots at enshrinement via the writers' voting before moving on to consideration by one of the Hall's various era-based veterans committees.

The support for Bonds and Clemens has mostly plateaued in recent years as the writers' positions on players associated with the steroid era have become largely entrenched at a level leaving them just shy of the threshold. Last year, Clemens was named on 61 percent of the ballots, while Bonds was at 60.7.

Schilling, on the other hand, had seen his vote share climb from 45 percent in 2017 to 70 percent last year. Historically, most players who reach the 70 percent level eventually garner enough support to land in Cooperstown. However, the backlash against Schilling's public and social media comments appears to be limiting his support.

Dick (Richie ) Allen missed getting elected to the HOF " Golden Days Era " Veterans Committee by 1 vote in 2014, He needed 12 of the 16 votes and received 11 votes.

The HOF restructured their election committees and their " Golden Days (1950-1969)" committee was supposed to meet this December to vote on electing someone from that era.

The Election Meeting was postponed because of Covid so the  Golden Days Era Committee
will meet / vote in the  fall of 2021 for the Class of 2022

Dick Allen is on that ballot and if He gets 12 votes will go in the Hall in 2022.

This committee meets every 5 years .

Shilling is an ass and always has been but deserves to get in.

Bonds and Clemens are absolute HOFs and both were before they ever used to extend their careers.  Should both be in.

It's dumb that the writers do not vote for them due to behavior and some of the worst people ever are already in.

Pete Rose got more hits than anyone else ever.  His behavior issues were as a coach not as a player.  They will put him in the year he dies.

Not having these guys in the Hall devalues the Hall.

Players must appear on at least 5% of submitted ballots in order to remain on the ballot the following year.

Three first-timers met that threshold in 2021:

Mark Buehrle (11.0%),
Torii Hunter (9.5%)
Tim Hudson (5.2%).

They can continue to have their cases appraised next winter.

Here are the complete results of the 2021 BBWAA vote:

Curt Schilling: 285 votes, 71.1% (70.0% in 2020)

Barry Bonds: 248, 61.8% (60.7%)

Roger Clemens: 247, 61.6% (61.0%)

Scott Rolen: 212, 52.9% (35.3%)

Omar Vizquel: 197, 49.1% (52.6%)

Billy Wagner: 186, 46.4% (31.7%)

Todd Helton: 180, 44.9% (29.2%)

Gary Sheffield: 163, 40.6% (30.5%)

Andruw Jones: 136, 33.9% (19.4%)

Jeff Kent: 130, 32.4% (27.5%)

Manny Ramirez: 113, 28.2% (28.2%)
