Chester County Bass Masters May 28 Open Results

Chester County Bass Masters held their 2nd of five Points Opens for the 2022 season on May 28th out of Anchor Marine in Northeast Maryland.

102 Teams showed up on a damp late spring Saturday in search of a 5 fish limit of Upper Bay black bass.

The largemouth were in spawn and post spawn modes, mostly post. Water temps the last few weeks have been stable with the bite being fairly good most days.
The field was full of the best Upper Chesapeake Bay fisherman the 5 state area has to offer.

A cool rain front moved thru the area Friday into late Friday night.
Winds died down to 5 - 10 for tournament morning.
Air temps at launch were around 63 with a little breeze.

The tournament launched at 5:45 under partly cloudy skies with a forecast high of 80.
Water temps were in the 70 -74 degree range depending on where you fished. Water color was a little dirty from the previous rain/wind.

Launch was on a rising tide tide with high around 10:00 am. with low at 5:00 pm
Ten flights went out with the first flight due back at 2:30 and each additional flight of 10 boats due back ten minutes apart.

Catching was decent for post spawn and the frontal system.
48 five fish limits were brought in.
10 teams had 4 fish
21 bass over 4 pounds were weighed in.
4 bass over 5 pounds were weighed in.
1 bass over 6 pounds were weighed in.

10 cash places were paid, along with 18 sponsor prizes from Susquehanna Tackle, Rhino linings of Delaware, Dobyns Rods, Zee Bait Company, Steak & Main Restaurant, Eastern Marine of Newark, Nichols Lures, 13 Fishing, Cabelas - Pauls Plastering, Buff USA, Pro-Tec Boat Care Products, Harmony Fishing Tackle, Bass Pro Shops, Boomerang Tools, Smallmouth Crush, Hayabusa Hooks, Native Tungsten Weights, Hi Seas Line, Bass Cat, Simms, Venom Lures, Trailer Parts Superstore of Newark, Upper Bay outdoors, Buck Brook Alpacas and Black Rifle Coffee Company.

53 boats participated in $ 60 option pot which paid 3 spots.

Unfortunately a couple top bags were not in the Option pot allowing 3rd place Option Pot Cash to go to tournaments 5th place team.

The winning boat is eligible for the Power Pole Captains Cash and the T & H Marine contingency cash if they are signed up for those programs.

First place cash payout and championship plaques went to a team that has been on the podium a few times for our Opens, they are no strangers to winning on the Upper Bay.
Keith Cowan and Zach Cowan bested the field by over 2 pounds.

The pair found the right bites to bring in a 5 fish limit of 21.66 Lbs to take home the win and a really nice payout.
Their big fish was 4.82 lbs.

The Team also took home additional $$$$$ by entering the $ 60 Option Pot and taking first place cash there.

They also took advantage of the Power Pole Contingency cash for $ 250, and the T & H Marine Contingency $$$.

Second place cash went to Calvin Schwenk and Nick Canestra . The team put together an outstanding 5 fish limit for this day weighing in at 19.44 Lbs.
Their big fish was 4.82 lbs.
Along with 2nd place cash, the team also received a nice package of products from Dobyns Rods !

Third place money was won by Duke Nave and Steve Allender who brought a 5 fish limit to the scales that topped out at 19.29 Lbs.putting some nice cash in their pockets.
Their big fish was 5.11 lbs.

The pair also entered the Option Pot taking home the $$$$ for 2nd place from that voluntary pot.

Fourth place dough was earned by Joe Hunt and Braden " Boom Boom " Hunt weighing in a 5 fish bag for 18.78 Lbs.
Their big fish was 4.89 lbs.

Fifth place coin went to the team of Zach White and Ryan Savidge - who weighed in 5 fish for 18.77 Lbs.
The Pair also entered the $ 60 Option Pot, taking home $$$ for 3rd place cash from that voluntary pot.

Sixth place cash was collected by the team of Derrick Lozer and Kris Bucher who brought 5 fish to the scales for 18.23 Lbs. with a big fish of 4.19 Lbs. Nice finish in a big field of quality anglers..

Seventh place money was snagged by the team of Ken Cassella and Bruce Richert with 5 fish weighing 17.99 Lbs. with a big fish of 3.80 Lbs. Great weight for the Bay.

Eighth place cash went to the team of Michael Machmer and Denny Bianco who brought 5 fish to the scales for 17.36 Lbs. to gain some nice points towards the 2022 Championship.
