Andre Dawson elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame for 2010.

Dawson was a rare combination of power, speed and defense.  He had one of the strongest throwing arms in the major leagues.  Started His career with the Montreal Expos, where playing on the hard concrete surface of the old Montreal stadium eventually deteriorated his knees to the point of 7 knee operations, forcing a move from Center field to Right field .

8-time All Star,

8-time Gold Glover ( 4 of them as a CF )

4 time Silver Slugger Award

1977 Rookie of the Year

1987 MVP, ( finished 2nd as MVP twice in '81 & 83 )

Almost 2800 hits and 1600 rbi's

One of only 3 players with 400+ HR and 300+ steals.

75 % of votes are needed to be elected to the Baseball  Hall of Fame.  Baseball Writers' Association of America voters named him on 420 of the 539 ballots for  a 77.9 % vote.

Bert Blyleven fell 5 votes short, Roberto Alomar 8 votes short.

Wow, there's a few names on there that I can't believe didn't get at least more votes, if not make it:

Lee Smith, less than 50%  !

Raines, Mattingly...   wow, I can't believe the vote totals are that low for them.

Smith was never dominant as a closer........just a compiler.

Mattingly has no shot, did not play long enough, if He was not a Yankee, no one would really care..

Raines will eventually get in.  Might tak his full 15 years on the ballot...He was one of the best leadoff men of his playing time.

He's not getting in for a while....Him, Palmerio, Sosa, Bonds, Clemens......all are going to have a wait till they are elected in.

I really could care less about baseball's hall of fame - as long as they keep up their persicution of Pete and deny him his proper place as a member, while admitting lesser men (based solely upon performance on the field). After all, it is the BASEBALL hall of fame.

The Hall of Fame should be 100% about performance and nothing else.
