pretty much a matter of personal preference.
i use both.

open water, wacky, skippin under stuff, open light hook sweep settin... i'll use the spinning set up and give the drag a work out.
light line, light hook stuff... i don't have a spinning rod with more than 8lb test on it.

for casting into wood, rocks, junk, etc with the hook buried, i'd rather have some heavier line and a heartier rod...  harder hooksets and get em out of the cover and to the boat quicker... i'm just more comfortable with a baitcaster set up for that. 

My problem with a baitcaster and weightless is back lashes.  If I have a little weight, I'm fine.  Light stuff I just can't do well.  That's why I stick with spinning even with 30lb braid when I'm throwing weightless or very light stuff.  Besides, you can't cast stuff under 1/4 oz very well with a baitcaster, especially when you're trying to throw far.

I use both.  I use the bait caster when I am flipping to posts or lay downs, but usually with a weight.  I use the Spinning rod for skipping under docks and stuff.  I have practiced skipping with the baitcaster but it is a more difficult cast...
