You knew something was wrong with Utley from May onward,  He went from being an MVP frontrunner to not being able to turn on a fastball and drive it like He normally would.

Turns out He played the rest of the season on a bad hip and will have surgery next week and be out of commission for 4 - 6 months.

"The Phillies said in a news release that since the end of the World Series, Utley "has had several diagnostic studies in regards to right hip symptoms that he had during the 2008 season." He has been evaluated by team physician Michael Ciccotti at the Rothman Institute at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and Dr. Bryan Kelly at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.

The release said, "Based on the diagnostic studies and examinations, it has been recommended that Utley have surgery on his right hip, which is scheduled for next week. The procedure will be an arthroscopic evaluation with treatment of any labral or bony injury. The recovery will allow for the initiation of baseball activities between three and four months, however, the total recovery time may require four to six months."

Jason Donald might be the starting 2b  come April.

Well you have to give him credit for gutting it out.  Everyone knew something was wrong.  I wish all players had his attitude, drive and determination.

It pays to be an optimist.  Even if you are wrong, you are happy about it.

Just hope that it is not a " Bo Jackson " type problem

aaahhh.... if dallas had a team i would follow them      nah that does suk i do love the phils and he is a key player not only for his stats but his motivation for the team.

Pillager

I'm pretty sure if he is motivation to the team it is only motivation by example because he doesn't talk too much.

And that's probably a good thing, remember the F-bomb after the Series?  I'm not  offended by the language, it just does not have a place on National TV especially with a LOT of impressionalbe young people watching.  A big Philly BOO to Utley on that one.

yeah that was classless. ive seen worse things on tv though. whats worse than the violent video games these kids are playing. who knows the country is backwards if you ask me.

Eli

My all time favorite public statement was when Bob Costas interviewed Redskin lineman Dexter Manley live about his recent drug suspension on National television.

Dexter told Bob and the TV audience, "I'll Leak for you right here".  Bob said that won't be necessary, kept his cool and flowed with the interview...

NICE  :undecided:

This isn't National TV, but it is a public access forum.  Probably better for that stuff in the "restricted" areas, where you know who can view.

I don't find that at all funny, or an acceptable example of what YOUR Club is about.
It's not MINE anymore, so I'm just stating an opinion as a public access viewer.

i think everyone thought about it too much. yes, you dont say that kind of stuff on national TV, yes he is a role model. but come on, he was celebrating all day, drinking all day. i mean, hes a hes a regular guy that just so happens to make millions playing baseball. hes not super human. he was having fun. and all the little kids that would have seen that, were most likely at the parade (where they were subject to other drunk adults, that dont make millions playing baseball, screaming "we fucking did it!") or they were in school. and the ones that are too young to be in school, wont remember hearing it, and dont know the significance of it.

Brian, my comments were directed at you, not Utley.  Your use of specific language in this public access forum is foul, disrepectfull of other non-members (remember it's possible much younger people than yourself visit this web-site), and a poor example of the membership of YOUR club.
Agian, your use of certain profanity does not specifically offend me, it is others from the public sector - and remember this website can be accessed worldwide - that bothers me.  I'm as guilty as anyone in forgetting that, and I have learned from it.  Hopefully you will also.
Commentary such as you have made is much better restircted to "member only" access areas where you know who your readers are.
