I received my renewal form today.  Good news is:  no price increase for 2009.  Boat license is still $30.00 (Maryland's is $50.00) and covers Virginia and Maryland Tidal Water.  Individual license is only  $7.50.  Available on-line also, at http://www.prfc.state.va.us/sports/fish_licenes.htm

Bruce, just so I understand this . . . if I get the Maryland boat sticker, I don't need a license to fish in Maryland tidal water?

The reason I ask is because of this:

License online from Maryland :
Consolidated Bay Sport Boat License allows everyone on board a vessel used for pleasure to recreationally fish in the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries in lieu of individual licenses. A special complimentary Chesapeake Bay sport fishing license, which includes recreational crabbing, will be issued to the boat owner purchasing this license.
$50.00 for residents and nonresidents

Why would the give a complimentary sport fishing license if the boater and the boat's occupants are permitted to fish because of the Consolidated Bay Sport Boat License?  What am I missing here?

sticker on the boat means that anyone in the boat is legit to fish.
the complimentary license is for when you go fishing on a different persons boat (if they don't have the sticker).

You will have a license to fish off of someone else's boat as well.  Not fresh water (I'm pretty sure), just the bay.

Potomac River Fisheries Commission does the same thing.  Don't know if you can crab with their license though.

It pays to be an optimist.  Even if you are wrong, you are happy about it.

I fish, therefore I am.

I am sure that a separate crab license is less than 20 bucks....

The PRFC license covers the same waters as the Md. Tidal license - for $20 less.  The guys explained the comp. license which covers you while bank fishing or in another angler's boat without the boat license.  It's good for all MD or VA TIDAL water, but to fish non-tidal fresh water you need the appropriate State fishing license.  It does not cover the District of Columbia for which you need a DC fishing license and a certificate for a Boater's Safety Course to fish above the Wilson Bridge in DC water.
