As of Feb 8th the Coast Guard will shut down Loran-C ("Long Range Aids to Navigation") after 66 years.  I guess this GPS thing is here to stay...

Their already working on the GPS system replacement but it will be 10 years before they get all of the birds flying...

Yes we are working on them :)

Actually the last of the GPS II-r birds was built outta Valley Forge and I think was launched last year, or maybe they are keeping it on the ground as a spare in case one of the on orbit birds has a problem.

GPS III birds start going up like Eli said sometime this decade.  Not a lot of civilian improvements if I recall a briefing I was at a while back, but I could be wrong, I dont work GPS.  I think they are actually building the vehicles out in Newtown.
